A parents primary goal should be protecting children online. You should become familiar with how online predators work if you use chat rooms or you have children who might. Predators can go after not just children but also adult women who are attractive and pleasant. Online predators could be women or men. You might be shocked to find that a few people you’ve chatted with online are predators, since anyone could be.
Predators will seek to persuade others to engage with them in chat rooms, via email or even through instant messaging. Teens are particular targets, but predators will look for anyone who seems vulnerable. They are trying to get someone to trust them in a short time. They will attempt to connect with someone within the first fifteen minutes of the encounter.
These predators are very charming, give a lot of attention to you and put a lot of time and energy into relating to you. Over time they may bring sexual content into the conversation, or try to present you with sexually graphic material.
The predator will show an interest in the same things you like, such as music and movies, etc. This person could talk to you for several weeks before sexual topics are introduced, or they will really try to get another date to chat very soon. Their real goal is to meet offline and that’s the greatest danger.
You must not give nay information that would let them know where you are, either directly or indirectly. You should not give information directly about you address or name, but neither should you let them find this information indirectly through the various sites you use online. Don’t give the stalker a method of getting to you and doing harm.
Teens are a very vulnerable group. Often they are lonely and seeking the attention of someone, especially an older person, who will make them feel important. The best course of action for you to take in preventing online predators from victimizing your children is to make certain that you are paying plenty of attention to your kids, and trying to make them feel that they are important. In fact, it may also be a good idea to think about choosing a pet for kids and get them off the internet.
